At the meeting of the Senate of Óbuda University on February 26, 2024, in a secret ballot, Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács’s candidacy for rector was unanimously supported. The Board of Trustees of the Rudolf Kalman Óbuda University Foundation, exercising the supervisory rights, unanimously approved the Senate’s decision at its meeting on February 27. The appointment process concludes with the appointment by the President of Hungary. Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács has been leading the institution since 2019, and his current rectoral appointment is for a term of five years, until 2029, informed Dr. András Cser-Palkovics, the chairman of the board of trustees, who also stated that the board of trustees decided the chief financial officer application. In the next five-year term, Botond Fehér will be the Chief Financial Officer of Óbuda University – Dr. András Cser-Palkovics announced.
Dr. András Cser-Palkovics informed that only one application was received for the call for applications issued by the Rudolf Kalman Óbuda University Foundation by the end of December. He noted that the application was reviewed and unanimously supported by the university’s staff and decision-making forums. In accordance with the expectations of academic autonomy, the foundation accepted and approved the Senate’s decision, thus ensuring that Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács will once again lead Óbuda University for the next five years, ensuring the institution’s peaceful and balanced operation – Dr. András Cser-Palkovics added.
Presenting Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács’s candidacy for rector, it was stated that the most important task during the period until 2029 is to stabilize the achieved results, increase the efficiency of administrative processes, maintain the growth trajectory, make progress in talent development, strengthen international reputation, and increase research and development activities through grants, growing industrial revenues, building science parks, and shaping innovative thinking.
Óbuda University is one of the country’s youngest universities, celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, although its predecessor institution in higher education has a history of 145 years – emphasized Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács following the Senate’s decision and the approval by the board of trustees. As he expressed: in the past five years, a priority was to broaden the training portfolio of the Óbuda University and strengthen its scientific foundations. Over the next five years, they will do everything possible to ensure that Óbuda University remains a leading institution in the field of technology at the national and regional levels.
According to the rules of rectoral elections, the procedure concludes with the appointment by the President of Hungary, and the new rectoral cycle will begin on July 15, 2024.
