On October 22, a delegation from Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT) visited Obuda University. Located in Guangzhou, China’s third-largest city, GDUT operates five campuses and has 20 faculties spread across three regions. With over 50,000 students, the university, similar to Obuda University, ranks in the top 601-800 on the Times Higher Education scale. The GDUT delegation, led by the university’s president, Prof. Qiu Xueqing, was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Peter Galambos, Vice-Rector for Innovation, on behalf of Obuda University’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács. Prof. Dr. Eniko Maior, Vice-Rector for Education, and Dr. Viktoria Sugar, Vice-Rector for Sustainability and Strategic Developments, also participated in the collaborative discussions.
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Péter Galambos delivered a presentation introducing Obuda University, highlighting its current innovative projects and aspirations. He shared the university’s commitment to strengthening its international partnerships to create more diverse opportunities for its students.
The GDUT delegation included President Prof. Qiu Xueqing; Zhou Dongbin, Chair of the School Affairs Committee; Prof. Qin Yanlin, Deputy Director of the Scientific Research Management Department; Prof. Huo Yanping, Director of the Forecasting and Analysis Center; Prof. Huang Rong, Director of the International Office; and Xiao Pan, a member of the International Office staff.
President Qiu expressed his enthusiasm for establishing a long-term partnership between the two institutions. He emphasized the potential for a multipolar collaborative agreement that would foster student exchange programs, technological transfers, and various joint research initiatives in the future. To further these discussions, he invited representatives from Obuda University to visit Guangdong and continue exploring shared objectives.
Prof. Dr. Péter Galambos accepted the invitation and informed the delegation that during Obuda University’s planned visit to China in March 2025, they would be pleased to meet at GDUT, where they could formalize a letter of intent to pave the way for future collaborations.
Following the meeting, the delegation also visited the university’s Research and Innovation Center’s robotics laboratory.
GDUT places a strong emphasis on scientific research and disciplinary development and has achieved remarkable results in this field. The university’s research policy aims to strengthen its foundational and applied research capacities while fostering knowledge exchange in an environment that enables researchers to thrive and innovate. As a result, GDUT boasts over 70 key laboratories and research platforms.
