Visit of the EU Delegation to Obuda University

On July 1, members of the high-level working group on education and training, an advisory body to the European Commission, visited Obuda University. The delegation of nearly 80 members was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, Rector, who presented the institution’s historical background and forward-looking goals.

Following the introduction of the university, Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács reported on the main objectives and achievements from its founding to the present day. He emphasized the importance of returning to the identification of outstanding talents, especially after the decline of the COVID-19 pandemic, to train successful and capable students with marketable degrees. The Rector added that the university is on a path of constant development and is committed to securing the institution’s future. With this motivation, Obuda University, in collaboration with the Széchenyi Venture Funds, established its own venture capital company, “Obuda Uni Venture Capital,” to help entrepreneurial students easily realize their innovative ideas with mentorship.

Dr. habil. Ervin Rácz, Vice-Rector for Education, presented the university’s educational and training portfolio. He paid special attention to the importance of international relations. He mentioned that although there are currently 821 foreign students, the goal is to increase this number to 3,000 within a reasonable time. The Vice-Rector also presented the institution’s strengths in numbers, stating that 78 percent of fresh graduates from undergraduate programs find a well-paying job within two months, 92 percent of master’s graduates within six months, and 67 percent of PhD students even before completing their studies. Both the Rector and the Vice-Rector highlighted that Obuda University ranks 301-350 in the 2024 ranking of young universities and is among the top 4 percent of nearly thirty thousand universities worldwide in international comparisons.

Zsanett Imre, an international advisor at the Székesfehérvár Vocational Training Center, emphasized the importance of close cooperation between vocational schools and higher education institutions. She added that a close partnership has been established between the Center and Obuda University. They have created a joint working group and are striving to align the curricula of the two institutions as much as possible. They also agreed on the extent of credit acceptance.

The delegation members visited three locations in three groups to view exhibitions organized by the faculties and industrial partners of Obuda University. They first visited the Bejczy Antal iRobotics Center at the University Research and Innovation Center, followed by Dr. László Kutor’s IT Evolution exhibition, and the Sigma Technology Sigma in Space and AR Works Industrial VR/AR exhibitions at the Neumann János Faculty of Informatics lobby. Finally, they viewed the Korond 2.0 and FUGA exhibitions at the Sándor Rejtő Faculty of Light Industry and Environmental Engineering lobby.
